Vote for the Future!
by Leon Shernoff
If you are reading this, chances are that you care about the Co-op. If you care about the Co-op, you need to vote in the current balloting. Ballots were mailed out Wednesday November 21st, so if you haven’t received yours by now, you need to come in and get a replacement at the member services or customer service window. You will need to bring proof of identity, as only Co-op members are allowed to vote. Your ballot then needs to be folded up and mailed to Project LEAP, an outside organization which is providing an independent count of the ballots. The address for Project LEAP is already printed on the outside of the ballot, but you will have to add your own stamp. Ballots must arrive at Project LEAP by December 12th.
Fraudulent Ballot Letter
If you have received your ballot, please note that the university managed to get a letter written by its public relations firm inserted with the official Co-op ballots, masquerading it as the official letter coming from the board. As board member Jim Withrow notes in his statement on page 5, the letter is “completely illegitimate.” For details on what else the university has been doing to try and sway voters to its Option A, see the article at the right. The Co-op has a coherent, financially sound plan for continuing the store at its new high level of quality under Option B. Both of these options are discussed in a more nuts-and-bolts fashion in the article on page 6.
Your vote counts!
In the meantime, make sure that you vote! Your vote counts! And your neighbor’s vote (if they are a Co-op member) counts, too. Tell all your friends about this! The university has made a major propaganda push on this ballot, so this must be countered with a strong grass-roots effort! The mailing list for the everGreen is always a little behind the times, so make sure that your neighboring Co-op members got theirs and are informed. An up-to-date list of questions and issues about the ballot will be maintained at the customer service/member services window. Shareholders can come in to talk live, or call. The same list will also be maintained on the Co-op’s website and the bulletin board downstairs. The phone number for the Co-op is (773) 667-1444. The extension for member services is x235, and the extension for customer service is x211.
Let’s save the Co-op!
